Maybelline Colossal Super Black Kajal Review

Hi friends,
Kajal is a very important element of my daily makeup needs and i think for most of us also. I think that simple kajal application in eyes can enhance any look. The love for kajals was inculcated in me by my mom as she use to ask me apply it daily for some good medicinal properties. Since then I swear by kajal's and use them almost everyday. Today I am reviewing the new launched Maybelline Colossal Super Black Kajal which i purchased from

Rs 300/- for 0.35 gms

Product Claim:
  •       SUPER BLACK With Light Absorbing Pigments, the formula delivers 2 times more blackness*, for double the intensity. For the boldest black look that enhances the natural color & shine of your eyes - in a single stroke.
  •          SUPER SMOOTH Enriched with oil for super smooth application, it glides on effortlessly and evenly, to perfectly define eyes - in one smooth stroke - while adding a rich, glossy sheen to the color result that lasts all day.
  • SUPER LASTING Waterproof, smudge proof formula stays intense for 16 hours. Ophthalmologically tested, it is suitable for sensitive eyes & contact lens users.

My review:

The outer packaging of the Maybelline Colossal Super Black kajal is very similar to Maybelline 12 hr colossal kajal with only difference of colour i.e. former has full body black with yellow strips while latter is full body yellow with black strips. The kajal is intact in hard paper cover and covered with transparent plastic. At the back of package one can see information about the product and instructions of its usage.
The kajal itself is a black body sleek pencil with retractable product in it. The body is completely black and has yellow detailing. The cap of the kajal is very tight, which makes it suitable for travelling.

The texture as claimed by the product is very soft, smooth and matte. The colour comes through on hand with single swipe but it requires multiple swipes on eyes for super black colour.  The application of kajal is very smooth. As I don’t wear contact lenses I can’t comment on the kajal’s safety for lenses wearer.

As mentioned in the name, the shad e of the kajal is black. The claimed super black colour comes through on eyes after almost 2 to 3 swipes. The colours comes decent black on eyelids in one swipe but for waterline it requires more than 2 swipes to get the jet black colour. The colour of this kajal is just a bit darker than Maybelline colossal 12 hr kajal, which costs only 175 rupees.

Staying Power:
This is a very important part of knowing about the performance of kajal. The Maybelline claims super black kajal is a 16 hour kajal, which is false. I have used this kajal on both my eyelids and waterline. The kajal stays in place on eyelids for almost 6 hours but on waterline it just stays fr 3  hours and then it starts to fade. Also even on eyelids the intensity of colors starts fading after 4 hours.

The kajal is water proof but not fully smudge proof as claimed by maybelline.  The kajal is good but not great for which one should pay Rs 300. I get better performance from my Lotus herbal kajal in single swipe and less price, hence I don't give this kajal a thumbs up.

1.    Smooth and matte finish.
2.    Easy application.
3.    Stays for good 5 to 6 hours
4.    Water proof
5.    Travel friendly
1.    Costly
2.    Not fully smudge proof
3.    16 hour false claim
4.    Not black enough as claimed

Texture: 4/5
Shade: 3/5 (Not as per claim)
Staying Power: 3/5

Overall Rating: 3.5/4

Final Verdict:
As I said, I get better results from other kajal’s in much lesser price, then why would I go for this. So, never buying again.
Have a great day, Bye J
